RESPONSIBILITIES: This position is responsible for leading the day-to-day payroll activities in accordance with MRI s accounting policies and Indian statutory requirements. This includes direct responsibility for payroll processing with the assistance of third-party processors and the surrounding systems, and payroll tax management. This role will also provide local leadership and organization with internal employees and outside accounting professionals managing the payroll processing as well as supporting analysis and filing requirements. Other functions include:

• Process Payroll:
  • Gather additional earnings from sources and enter payroll
  • Process timecards (if applicable) and import to payroll
  • Update earnings/deductions for changes in benefit coverages
  • Obtain payment data for terminated employees
  • Provide payroll result comparison to management for payroll processing submittal
  • (If applicable) Send pension and other benefit data to appropriate parties
  • Create/Download/Save needed payroll reports for accounting
  • Lead statutory filings to Indian governmental bodies to ensure compliance
  • Work within the timelines required by the payroll processing partners
  • Assist with the month-end close process for India s operations, working closely with the local and corporate Finance team to ensure the fiscal reporting is timely, accurate and consistent with the reporting expectations and accounting treatment laid-out by corporate accounting in the US
  • Ensure processes owned by the India-based finance are functioning properly and timely.
• System Maintenance:
  • Communicate with HR on employee data changes/new hires
  • Maintain Payroll system employee data
  • Stay up to date on tax/government compliance issues
• Analysis:
  • Be the driver in the preparation, analysis and presentation of Indian fiscal reporting and state of the business to local management and global teams
  • Assist in G/L account reconciliations
  • Ensure processes owned by the India-based finance are functioning properly and timely.
  • Continuously optimize and streamline the India-based payroll function, in concert with a global view of Finance operations.
  • Communicate issues clearly and timely in advance so that payroll processes without issue
  • Be able to assist other team members with their duties to meet deadlines as needed.
  • Handle ad hoc queries as they arise.
  • Other duties as requested by your supervisor/company management.

DESIRED COMPETENCIES:

1. Direct industry experience in a software or other subscription-based business

2. Direct industry experience working for a Private Equity-owned business

3. Successful experience:

a. partnering with international financial colleagues to derive swift and useful informational reporting and operating efficient and effective processes.

b. leading Indian payroll operations for an entity with at least 1000 employees.

c. meeting deadlines - always / possessing a whatever it takes attitude to get things done on a timely and accurate basis, without stepping afoul of laws and regulations / forward-looking to isolate potential errors or issues well in advance of a matter interfering with employees being paid on time;

e. working as a value-add business partner across all functions of an organization.

f. experience working with business activities in the U.S.

h. implementing procedures to improve internal control systems and other process improvements.

i. technologically adept; advanced proficiency with using various software packages, internet portals.

REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge and Skills:

• Proficiency with MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and mid-to-advanced accounting software packages
• Experience with and some knowledge of US GAAP is a plus
• Proven leadership ability and excellent communication skills
• Ability to meet assigned deadlines
• Adapts to changes in the work environment, manages competing demands, changes approach or method to best fit the situation, able to deal with change, delays or unexpected events.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills: versatile and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously with competing deadlines
• Clean, neat, easy-to-read communication/presentation of analyses and other presentations
• Strong work-ethic, detail-driven and a commitment to doing whatever it takes to get the job done

Education and Experience:

• At least 3+ years experience in leading the payroll processing for an Indian company with at least 1000 employees, preferably in a high-growth phase
• Bachelor s degree in accounting or finance.
